BladeMade-Transforming Decommissioned Wind-turbine into Public Furniture
We were invited to participate the long-term design research project by Superuse, an international architecture collective for circular and sustainable design. The project was in the 9th Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (UABB) in Shenzhen, it also marked BladeMade’s official debut in China. BladeMade aligns seamlessly with UABB’s theme—Urban Cosmologies. “Cosmologies” here refers both to the spatial coexistence of diverse life forms and the temporal rhythms of life itself. The project focuses on the untapped potential of decommissioned wind turbine blades. Through upcycling and creative transformation, these discarded blades are repurposed into urban public seating installations. In doing so, the project reflects the three core dimensions of Urban Cosmologies:
• On a cognitive level, it reimagines the city as a space of continuous symbiosis;
• On a methodological level, it explores pathways toward circularity and balance in urban development;
• On a practical level, it expresses how everyday urban life can embody sustainability and regeneration.
